I’m in Lynchburg, VA for the week and sorry to say…there isn’t too much to do here. But then I remembered that in VA, you’re never too far away from a winery!! So, the family got it together and we went out to Leo Grande Winery. We settled on this one due to its location, amount of space, and they had farm animals. My niece loved the chickens and got to pet the potbelly pig! I was there for the wine.
My fav - the 2006 Chardonnay . Aromas of ripe apples with a buttery oak character aged in American Oak rich enough to sip on. Oh yeah, and the Roaring Red, a semi sweet medium bodied wine made from the Italian Sangiovese grape.
The owner Norman poured the wine for my tasting and explained just about everything I needed to know about his wines, the land, the city…He was amazing!! Plenty of space, chairs, there was a grill outside and live music! You can also buy wine by the bottle or the glass to sit outside and sip. Not a bad way to spend the day. As for a winery visit, Leo Grande is GMG Approved!!
