I love twitter! I’ve gotten some great biz contacts, important info, and made friends all on twitter. So put twitter together with wine tasting….HEAVEN!!! Twitter Taste Live is an online wine tasting, paired with twitter, where bloggers discuss/taste specific wines, wineries, etc during the same hour. Last night’s featured winery was Chateau Tanunda of Australia.
Chateau Tanunda has only been in the USA for 2 years but is already leaving its mark. It’s been the highest ranking Australian winery in Wine Spectator’s top 100 and one of Australia’s top 20 best producers. Crafted from the highest quality of fruit in Barossa, these wines were made with Australian flavor but very similar in style to old world wines.
We tasted 3 wines, the Grand Barossa Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz.
Grand Barossa Riesling — delicate flavors of lime and citrus, crisp minerality and the brightest acidity
Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon — For this wine, the grapes were placed uncrushed into the fermented to rest on their skins for 8 days before fermentation. This adds a deeper red color, deeper flavors, and more tannins.
Dark berry fruit, think plums and cherries. Nice bit of chocolate and mint with silky smooth tannins on the finish. Oak comes through right at the finish line.
Grand Barossa Shiraz — Exotic spices and red berries dominate the nose and the palate on this one. Vanilla and earthiness show up on the palate leading to a long finish.
